Environment
Yew Tree Farm has been on the Government run Country Stewardship Scheme since 2000. The scheme is designed to encourage nesting birds, wildlife and insects back onto the land by providing suitable breeding grounds and safe environments.
So far we have created two ponds,
an orchard with fifteen varieties of
traditional English apples, pears and
plums, over 2km of footpaths and
hedgerows. To preserve the wildlife
no blanket spraying of pesticides or
fertilisers is allowed meaning that
the grazing sheep do not come into
contact with any chemicals.
Reduce food miles
Local Produce is sourced wherever possible
Our own lamb produced is sold in the shop and prepared on the farm, it only has to travel 4 miles to the local abattoir in Cronton.
We get our turkeys as day old chicks from the Wirral and then they are reared and slaughtered on the Farm so no other food miles are incorporated.
The beef sold in the shop is also produced and slaughtered within Merseyside
